5 Places to Go for Your Pennsylvania Weekend Getaway

Not everyone has time or resources for an extended summer vacation. But do not be dismayed! Philadelphia is ripe with summer-fun destinations. Each of our highlighted locations is within easy driving distance from Martin RV Rentals, so you may want to consider reserving an RV rental for your weekend lodging.

1.) French Creek State Park

Located about an hour outside Philadelphia, French Creek State Park has a variety of outdoor activities for guests to enjoy. Activities within the park include hiking, swimming, boating, fishing, mountain biking, disc golfing, and more. You can also stay overnight by reserving a cabin, yurt, or campsite. You may want to reserve your site early if you’re getting an RV rental, because the campground has only 60 electric hookups.

2.) Philadelphia Zoo

If you plan a weekend away in Philadelphia, check out the Philadelphia Zoo. One of the Philadelphia Zoo’s special features is its recent Zoo360 addition. According to their website, Zoo360 is a network of mesh “animal exploration trails” that weave throughout the complex. Zoo360 allows monkeys, lemurs, lions, tigers, and other creatures to roam safely throughout the park—a unique experience for both animal and guest!

3.) Longwood Gardens

A unique botanical experience, the Longwood Gardens is a peaceful escape for visitors. From indoor conservatories to the new Outdoor Meadow Garden, you can enjoy some of nature’s most beautiful plants and soak in the calm. We recommend Longwood Gardens for a day trip or as one stop on a Philadelphia weekend adventure. Be sure to check out the Longwood Gardens’ special events page for information on unique workshops, dining events, and concerts.

4.) Bushkill Falls

The “Niagara of Pennsylvania,” Bushkill Falls is nestled in the scenic Pocono Mountains. Visitors from all over come to see the crystal spring waters flowing over Bushkill Falls and to hike the surrounding trails. You can choose to stay at a nearby resort or nestle your motorhome rental at a nearby campsite in the Poconos.

5.) Historic Penn’s Cave & Wildlife Park

You could easily spend a whole day at Penn’s Cave, located in Centre Hall, PA. Take an underground water boat tour through limestone caves; check out bison, bobcats, and other animals on the 90-minute wildlife tour; or grab a bison burger at the Cave Café.
